Description: Brazilian bladesmith William Porto, born in March of 1989, began as a part-time blacksmith, forging tools on the side while working at his family’s grocery store and providing food for his community through hunting. During this period (2008-2015), he served as a corporal in the Brazilian Army. It was a humble beginning, but a chance encounter with a well-designed skinning knife sparked a desire to create blades that were both functional and beautiful. What began as a practical project - making his first knife in 2012 - soon evolved into a passion. After leaving the Army barracks in 2015, William decided to commit himself to creating high-end cutlery exclusively. Just one year later, he won an award for Best Damascus at the Sorocaba Knife Show. By 2017, after diving fully into bladesmithing and honing his skills through hands-on work and more formal training, William crafted his first chef’s knife — and promptly earned recognition with an award for Best Damascus Knife from a local blacksmith association. Just six months later, his second culinary blade won Best Kitchen Knife. Today, his world-class kitchen knives are used daily by chefs and home cooks alike. He has won numerous awards, including six awards just for Best Damascus. His high level of work speaks for itself!
A bird’s beak paring knife shines in all the little tasks where control matters more than power. Its curved, talon-like tip lets you work with the natural shape of fruits and vegetables instead of fighting against them—making it ideal for peeling apples, turning potatoes, trimming mushrooms, hulling strawberries, and getting into tight spots a straight parer can’t reach. The downward curve provides precise tip contact and clean cuts, especially on rounded surfaces, while its small size keeps it nimble in your hand. It’s one of those tools that feels simple until you use it—then you realize how much easier prep becomes when the knife matches the shape of the job.
The blade is forged from Porto's own twist pattern damascus, combining 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The high-contrast pattern is extremely engaging and invites further inspection. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort. William's touchmark is inlaid with 24K gold on the left side of the blade. His J.S. mark is inlaid with gold on the right side.
The bolster is integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith. William inlaid the bolster with a 24K gold band as an accent.
The handle is dyed and stabilized box elder burl, heirloom fit to the integral bolster. This ensures there will be no sharp corners even if the wood shrinks slightly over time. Box elder burl holds up exceptionally well to the demands of a professional kitchen. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
A hand-stitched leather sheath made by William is included, which allows you to carry the knife on a belt or in your pocket if preferred.
Includes a branded zipper case for safe storage and transportation.
Exceptional work throughout!
