Description: Lourens Prinsloo made his first knife in 1996, shortly after attending a knifemaking course with Owen Wood. In 1998 he became a member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa. Prior to his retirement in 2016, Lourens taught engineering, graphic design, woodworking, and metalwork. This variety of experience helped him tackle the challenges that exist with creating high performing folders that are beautiful as well as functional. His main focus is making gentleman's folding knives designed to be carried and used.
Prinsloo's linerlock is a classy gentleman's folder. The 2-1/2 inch blade is hand ground Hakkapella stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This high performing damascus is created using powder metallurgical steel manufacturing to provide excellent edge retention and unmatched beauty. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain cutting edge that won't need to be thinned as often over time.
The blade is perfectly centered. It has silky-smooth action - easily opened with two hands using the left-side nail nick.
Handle scales are ancient bog oak. This wood has been buried in a bog for hundreds or sometimes thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protect the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. Satin finished titanium liners surround a Damasteel backbar. The bead blasted torx pivot finishes the handle.
Includes a zipper case to safely store the knife.
Excellent work throughout!
