Description: Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. In 1978, they settled in Golden, Colorado, and initially, the company focused on selling their first product: the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™ which was primarily sold at fairs and trade shows around the country. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, their innovations have earned them an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards.
The Manix 2 Lightweight (C101PBN15V2) takes the fan-favorite Manix 2 and pares it down to the essentials, dropping the total weight to under 3 ounces. This sprint run uses brown FRCP (fiberglass-reinforced co-polymer) handle without steel liners. The high-strength ball bearing lock system is easy to operate with either hand and the wire pocket clip can be mounted to accommodate right or left side, tip-up carry. Screw together construction makes it easy to disassemble for cleaning or installing aftermarket parts.
The 3.4 inch blade is crafted from CPM-15V tool steel with a stonewash finish. 15V is an incredible feat of metallurgy, boasting the highest wear resistance of any cold work tool steel available today. 3.4% carbon and 14.5% vanadium provide exceptional hardenability with unparalleled edge retention. To maximize the properties of this amazing steel, Spyderco collaborated with custom knifemaker Shawn Houston to create a specialized heat treatment protocol. Shawn’s “Triple B” mark is laser engraved into the reverse side of the blade to showcase his contribution. The stonewash finish helps hide scratches that appear during use. Because this is a tool steel, it must be kept clean and oiled to prevent corrosion. We recommend camellia oil to help neutralize rust and promote a patina. The full flat grind provides an exceptionally sharp edge.
Made in Golden, Colorado, USA.
