Description: Aaron Wilburn became a journeyman smith in June of 2009 and a master smith in 2013. He has incredible control over damascus that few others can replicate. Aaron creates serious knives for some of the most avid collectors and this hunter is a tremendous example of his work!
The blade is hand forged 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that this is the best steel available anywhere for use as a knife blade. The blade was differentially heat treated, bringing the edge to critical temperature then quenched with oil. This technique, involving low temperature forging, a multiple quench and multiple temper creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. Many thermal cycles and normalizing steps ensure consistent grain structure and exceptional durability. A cryogenic treatment between tempers enhances edge holding ability. A forge finish remains on the flats and an antiqued finish is incorporated in the grinds. Wilburn's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. His M.S. mark and serial #899 is on the right side.
The stacked handle features a central column of stag. The natural texture of the stag provides a comfortable grip. Stacked spacers of leather, Micarta, and steel nicely complement the stag handle. The back of the handle is finished with an ancient mammoth ivory butt cap secured with a hammered copper rivet. The front of the handle is sealed with an antiqued wrought iron guard. This knife is sure to be your favorite companion out in the field!
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather sheath made by Aaron is included.
Excellent work throughout!
