Description: This Kosie Steenkamp custom Elevator Flipper is a fantastic compact utility folder -- yet it would feel equally comfortable in most any collection. The drop point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented. The folder has incredibly smooth action thanks to the IKBS bearing system. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The flipper is tremendously easy to use.
Kosie was introduced to knifemaking by his brother, Willem Steenkamp. He began making knives in 2007 and was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2009. Kosie is a stickler for detail and perfection, all these qualities and his obvious passion for this craft comes through in his work.
The hand ground, drop point blade is M390 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are Light FatCarbon, perfectly fit to carbon fiber bolsters. Titanium liners surround a stacked G10/carbon fiber backspacer. The Rausch external pivot and pivot collar are brought to a high polish. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
