Description: This dramatic bowie is the work of Andrew Blomfield. Andrew hails from New South Wales, Australia and became an American Bladesmith Society Journeyman Smith in June 2022 and a Mastersmith in 2025. I was tremendously excited when I was introduced to his work by fellow countryman Bruce Barnett. Blomfield brings a level of skill that is extremely rare, as shown in this sole-authorship dagger.
The 9 inch clip point blade is forged from Blomfield's own feather pattern damascus, combining 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. The intricate, complex pattern will have you staring at it for hours. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. Andrew's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. This is one of his last J.S. knives before achieving his Mastersmith rating. Because the blade is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is a beautiful section of Arizona desert ironwood, hand contoured to provide a comfortable grip. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! Brass spacers surround a fluted heat colored spacer. The handle is finished with a heat blued S-guard. A custom blackened screw at the back allows the knife to be disassembled if cleaning and maintenance are needed. Take-down construction requires tighter tolerances and shows Andrew's focus on the details.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched custom leather sheath made by Andrew is included.
Excellent work throughout!
