Description: This engraved front flipper is the collaborative work of husband and wife team Helgard and Ida Mostert. A protégé of renowned South African knifemaker Andre Thorburn, Helgard brings exceptional knifemaking skills. Ida brings meticulous hand engraving.
The blade is damascus forged from stainless steel by Damasteel. The Svavner pattern is extremely engaging. This high performing damascus is created using powder metallurgical steel manufacturing to provide excellent edge retention and unmatched beauty. The pattern is revealed in the grinds. The flats are mirror polished nearly hiding the pattern. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky-smooth, drop shut action. The inobtrusive front flipper opening is easy to use for quick deployment. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is exceptional! The knife can be opened using the index finger or thumb. This special folder is made with ceramic ball bearings. Generally, IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds -- extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize.
Handle scales are Black Camo FatCarbon set on anodized and fileworked titanium liners. Titanium bolsters are meticulously hand engraved with Italian scroll engraving by Ida Mostert. The engraving is beautifully done. An engraved backspacer keeps the knife light, yet strong. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
