Description: Helgard and Ida Mostert are quite the team. Helgard Mostert is a protégé of Andre Thorburn. He creates exceptional folders with some of the best action and fit and finish found anywhere. Ida Mostert brings tremendous engraving skills.
The hand ground blade is RWL-34 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by Damasteel in Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and durability while maintaining very high wear resistance. Mostert’s touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky-smooth, drop-shut action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous front flipper toggle. It uses IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System). This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This special flipper is made with ceramic ball bearings. Generally, IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize.
Splash carbon fiber handle scales are set on anodized titanium liners. They meet with titanium bolsters, meticulously hand engraved by Ida Mostert. Bronze anodized and fileworked liners surround and engraved backbar. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout from a husband and wife team that is making a big impact.
