Description: This exceptional Tanto shows Fred Ott's work at its best. This Japanese-style tanto grabs the imagination from first sight.
The blade was forged to shape from 1086M carbon steel and clay hardened using a traditional Japanese technique. The resulting heat treatment line, known as a hamon, makes a separation between the soft, supportive spine, and the ultra-hard, long lasting edge. The havaki (blade guard) is formed from satin finished copper.
The handle is hand contoured walnut wood. It is set, as is traditional, with a bamboo peg (mekugi).
The tanto is accompanied by a hand built walnut display box – also made by Fred Ott. Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
