Description: Anders Högström is a talented maker from Johanneshov, Sweden. He combines traditional Nordic, Japanese, and medieval styles into one and makes it his own. He is well known for his exceptional fit and finish and well done designs. This sword is among Anders’ masterpieces to date. It was completed in 2014 and has been in a private collection. It is in exceptional condition.
Bifrost is is an impressive 23-1/2 inches of 1050 carbon steel, heat treated using a traditional Japanese method called honyaki that uses clay as a heat sink when quenching. The result is a temper line (called a hamon), which shows a differential hardness between cutting edge and the center of the blade. This makes the center of the blade extremely tough, but allows the cutting edge to have exceptional edge retention.
The handle is ancient walrus ivory surrounded by 18k gold rings. The pommel, guard and habaki are solid sterling silver that has been antiqued and textured.
This sword is accompanied by a veneer-quality curly European Ash heath, set with antiqued and textured sterling silver fittings. It also comes with an oak display stand. The name of the sword and maker are engraved on a solid 18k gold plaque. Exceptional work throughout!
