Description: Luke Dellmyer (b. 1980) is a bladesmith residing in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. He lives on a horse farm with 26 horses in their stables. He first started working with metal at 15 years old while working as a farrier apprentice. During this time, he would also create ornamental ironwork as a hobby. Today, he still works as a full time farrier while working as a bladesmith part time. He made his first knife in 2018 and was lucky to have Mastersmiths Josh Fisher and David Lisch as mentors along the way. Luke received his Journeyman Smith award at Blade Show in 2023. He also won the James Lucia award for best knife submitted by a new Journeyman smith. It is clear that Luke is a maker to keep an eye on as he moves up in the ranks of elite knifemakers.
This exceptional hunter was part of his journeyman smith test set. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career. This knife was kept by Luke after his test and he only recently decided he was willing to part with it.
The blade was hand forged from 1084 carbon steel to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. A hand rubbed satin finish lends an heirloom quality to the knife. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. Luke's touchmark is on the left side.
The premium Karelian birch handle is stabilized. The fluted mild steel ferrule is heat blued.
This dramatic hunter is accompanied by a hand tooled custom leather sheath by Bob Bobbitt.
Excellent work throughout!
