Description: Visiting Mastersmith Neels van den Berg's workshop on trips to South Africa is a real treat. His forge is pretty much in the middle of nowhere -- or at least if you kept driving down the road, that is clearly where it would end. The twisting road travels through veldt populated by zebra and other wild animals. Neels is well known for his war hammers, spike hawks, and highly refined knives. Van den Berg was honored as a Mastersmith at Blade Show in June of 2022, joining an elite rank of the world's best knifemakers.
The 9 inch dagger is hand ground from Neel's own twist pattern damascus, combining 1075 and 75Ni8 carbon steels for excellent toughness and edge holding. It is hollow ground and perfectly symmetrical. Daggers are one of the hardest blades to grind because it becomes extremely obvious if the blade is not ground perfectly. Neels' touchmark is engraved on the left side of the blade.
The symmetrical coffin handle is crosscut mammoth ivory. The contoured handle comfortably locks your hand in place for a sure grip. Damascus spacers surround a central steel spacer. The polished steel guard is satin finished on the front and back.
The knife is accompanied by a zipper case for safe storage.
Excellent work throughout!
