Description: Pieter van der Bank of PVB Knives is a bladesmith from the small town of Heidelberg located in the Western Cape of South Africa. Pieter has been hand crafting unique kitchen knives since 2016 and focuses on both European style and Japanese style chef's knives. We were excited when he sent us these higonokami.
This folder is inspired by a traditional Japanese tradesman's folder called a higonokami. The extended tang is used to open the blade but it also acts as a lock to avoid the blade accidentally closing when in use.
The sheepsfoot blade is hand forged, stonewashed 1095 carbon steel. 1095 carbon steel has excellent edge holding, toughness, and resistance to chipping. The blade is flat ground with a 25 degree angle and a rounded spine for comfort.
The handle is one solid piece of forge-textured, blackened mild steel. A brass pin acts as a stopping point for closing and opening the blade. This knife can easily be a cherished daily carry but will feel right at home in most any private collection.
This folder is accompanied by a hand stitched, veg-tanned leather custom sheath for easy carry.
Excellent work throughout!
