Description: Cristian Silva is a talented bladesmith from Buenos Aires, Argentina doing fantastic work with a high level of fit and finish. He has been a full time knifemaker since 2008. He is capable of creating many styles of knives, including high performance hunters and bowies, highly ornate daggers, and kitchen knives. His work is found in collections worldwide including the royal family of the United Arab Emirates. This large field knife is a tremendous example of Silva's skills.
The blade is hand forged 1095 carbon steel with a differential heat treatment. Borrowing from the world of Japanese swords, Silva coated the spine with clay prior to heat treatment. The clay acts as a heat sink, keeping the spine softer and supportive, while allowing the edge to be exceptionally hard. The undulating heat treatment line seen in the blade is called a hamon. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. Silva's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The stag handle has lots of natural texturing for excellent grip. It is heirloom fit to a blackened steel guard and spacer. A central polished stainless steel spacer adds a nice touch of contrast.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
