Description: The Kiridashi is a traditional wood carving knife, widely used in Japan. Whether used as a marking knife or to carve wood, kiridashi are used by almost all Japanese carpenters. It is a versatile tool for general use. Translated to English, 'kiridashi' means 'to carve out' in Japanese.
This kiridashi is made by Black Dragon Forge, led by South African Mastersmith Neels van den Berg. Neels is a full-time bladesmith and knifemaker with a passion for learning and teaching. After taking a knifemaking course in 2007, van den Berg knew he had stumbled upon his passion. Neels forges his own steel and strives to make practical, high-quality, no-nonsense knives and tools. He expects his knives to be used and used hard.
This Kiridashi is 5160 carbon steel and features a razor sharp, near-infinite edge. The flat grind is satin finished. The handle features a Japanese style wave engraving. This Kiridashi is made with a right bevel, which is traditionally used by right handed users in Japan. Many Western woodworkers find that having both a left and right oriented bevel helps for more precise carving.
Excellent work throughout!
