Description: South African knifemaker Hennie Du Plessis creates an exceptional folder. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous front flipper toggle. This folder is a detent lock rather than a liner lock. This makes it legal in many jurisdictions where a locking folder is not legal. Two ceramic detent balls firmly hold the blade in its open position. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is exceptional! The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The blade can either be opened with the front flipper or using the Gibeon meteorite thumb disc.
The harpoon tip blade is hand ground RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by Damasteel in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength and durability while maintaining very high wear resistance. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are Camo Carbon, set on jewel polished titanium liners. A ‘bolster’ is formed from Gibeon meteorite. The Gibeon meteorite landed in Great Namaqualand, Namibia, Africa. It radio carbon dates to over 4 billion years ago. Gibeon fragments are spread over one of the largest strewn fields in the world, measuring 70 miles wide by 230 miles long and have a distinctive pattern known as the Widmanstatten pattern, which is one of the richest and most distinct patterns found in meteorites. The crystalline patterns can only form in the vacuum of space. The large metallic crystals require millions of years of cooling to form from a molten planetary core fragment. It has been estimated that it took about 1000 years for these molten pieces of planetary core to cool by just 1 degree Celsius! Textured titanium liners surround a polished stainless steel backbar. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up, right-side carry.
The knife comes with a padded protective case.
Exceptional work throughout!
