Description: This S-Guard Bowie with Ironwood is an exceptional example of Raymond Richard's work. It has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The blade is hand forged 5160 carbon steel with an antiqued finish. 5160 is tough, maintains an excellent edge, and is extremely resistant to breakage and chipping, making it a perfect steel for in hard-use knives. The blade is flat ground for strength and durability. Richard's touchmark is engraved into the spine of the knife.
The handle is a column of Arizona desert ironwood. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is among the most desirable of exotic woods used for knives. The S-guard and fittings are antique wrought iron. The handle is nicely contoured to provide a secure, comfortable grip.
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown leather custom sheath with retention snap is included.
Nice work throughout!
