Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. Regretfully, few of Harvey's knives make it to the US these days. I was extremely excited to be able to bring this one to the US.
In the late 1800s in San Francisco, Michael Price was among the greatest of knifemakers. The knives produced during this era were among the most exotic, the most costly, and perhaps the most beautiful knives ever produced in the United States. This California Dagger was inspired by Price's classic design.
The dagger-ground blade is forged from Kevin's own twist pattern damascus, combining carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding. The high contrast, deeply etched pattern is extremely engaging. The bevels are flat ground to emphasize Kevin's clean grinds. Kevin's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is African wattle burl (Peltophorum africanum) secured using hand domed nickel silver pins. The dramatic swirling figure of this mid-tone wood is nicely complemented by the nickel silver fittings. The fittings are elegantly hand engraved by Mastersmith Harvey.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom sheath made by Kevin is included. The sheath is beechwood, wrapped with ostrich leather. The nickel silver tip and throat are also hand engraved.
Exceptional work throughout!
