Description: This exceptional Slipjoint Folder was forged by Mastersmith Shayne Carter. Shayne is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and became an ABS Mastersmith in 2019. In 1984, Shayne was the first American to win the World Champion Blacksmith Competition (WCBC) held in conjunction with the Calgary Stampede. Shayne is still the youngest participant to win the WCBC title at age 23. Over the years, Shayne has been very active in competitions, winning spots on the American Farriers Team in 1986,1988,1990,1993, 1997, and 1998. He travels all over the world teaching horseshoeing skills, blacksmithing, and knife and tool making. In 1998, Shayne received the Jim Linzy Outstanding Clinician Award. In 2000, Shayne was voted Farrier Industry Legend. This was awarded to the top 25 most influential contributors to the farrier industry. In 2003 Shayne was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. Shayne’s knives have become well-known for their exceptional functionality and beautiful designs. He competed (twice!) in and won the popular show Forged in Fire in season three. He is an exceptional blacksmith and bladesmith.
The clip point blade was forged to shape from his own feather pattern damascus. By combining carbon steels, Shayne ensures a keen, long lasting edge. The damascus is tremendously complex, with detailed barbs radiating from a central quill. The perfectly centered blade has smooth, consistent action with a well timed half stop.
Mammoth ivory handle scales are secured to fileworked stainless steel liners using hand domed pins. The presentation grade mammoth ivory bark taken from the exterior of the tusk features very rare blue and green tones. The stainless steel liners surround a twist damascus spring. Showing Shayne's skill at the forge, the stars in the twist damascus perfectly align moving down the spring. Front and rear bolsters are perfectly fit to the handle and will help protect the ivory if the folder is dropped.
Excellent work throughout!
