Description: The models offered by Randall Knives have been developed over a period of 80 years from personal experience, extensive research and the study of hundreds of designs submitted by individuals around the world requesting custom-made knives. Each model has been thoroughly field-tested and has proven to be properly shaped and designed for its particular use. Randall knives are 100% hand made and no two are exactly alike. This Smithsonian Bowie was designed to be a replica of the Iron Mistress Bowie displayed in the Smithsonian Museum. This Smithsonian Bowie was made around 1988. Despite its age, the knife is in near mint condition with just some minor wear showing on the blade.
The 11 inch clip point blade is forged from O1 carbon steel. The massive blade measures 1/3 inch at the spine and will handle heavy duty chopping tasks with ease. The large swedge stops just short of being fully sharpened. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to prevent rust from forming.
The handle is antique yellow Westinghouse Micarta. This Micarta was developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation. The guard and fluted spacer and pommel are polished brass. The handle is finished with black fiber spacers to add contrast between the fittings and Micarta.
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown leather sheath with an original field sharpening stone is included.
This knife is a true piece of knifemaking history that you won't want to miss!
