Description: Dave Skinner brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. This Hamon Fighter is a tremendous example of his work.
The blade was forged to shape from 1070 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. Skinner borrowed a technique from Japanese swords and gave the blade a clay zone heat treatment. The line (hamon) that travels along the blade shows the transition between the softer, resilient spine and the keen, long lasting cutting edge.
The contoured, carved handle is stabilized spalted birch. The dramatic wood combines light tones with dramatic black spalting lines. It is perfectly contoured for a secure, non-slip grip. The guard is hand forged cable damascus. A hand fileworked stainless steel spacer add a nice contrast.
This fighter is accompanied by a leather custom sheath. The sheath is dramatically tooled to reflect the natural patterns in the wood.
Exquisite work throughout!
