Description: Ricardo Vilar is one of the makers that brought the Brazilian knife market to the forefront of American collectors' minds. Vilar was one of the primary organizers of the Brazilian cutlery seminar with North American Mastersmith Jerry Fisk, which was held in Ricardo's workshop back in 2001. In 2005, he became the first South American journeyman smith in the American Bladesmith Society. His work is exceptional, with dramatic shapes and detailed damascus. His designs and attention to detail clearly set him apart as a leader. Vilar moved to the US around 2018 and is continuing to be on the forefront of custom knifemakers.
The flat ground blade is hand forged W's Damascus forged from 1080 and 15n20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding. The high contrast pattern is extremely engaging and will have you staring at its intricacies for hours. Ricardo's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The mortised tang sheep horn handle is extremely comfortable. Sheep horn provides a sure grip that doesn't get slippery when it gets wet. A lanyard can be added to the knife if desired. The handle is nicely fit to the satin finished stainless steel guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
