Description: This is an exceptional knife by renowned knifemaker, Roderick Chappel. Master Craftsman Roderick “Caribou” Chappel, was a custom knifemaker based primarily out of Washington state. His blades were high-caliber works of art. He was an artist that brought his pen and paper drawings to life with ease and dexterity. A trail blazer, his passion for knifemaking greatly impacted the custom knifemaking industry. His artistry is immortalized through his unique one-of-a-kind knives, daggers, and bowies. Notorious for his ergonomic hand sculpted grips and the superior mastery in his sweeping grinds, he implemented a hollow grind with a rolled convex edge that would be resilient and sharp through many events of usage. Sadly, Chappel passed away in 2017. This knife has been in a single collection since it was made in 2003 and is in new condition. By all appearances, Rod could have made it yesterday.
The 8-1/2 inch blade is mirror polished 440C stainless steel. On the left side, it is marked: "January 29th, 2003 / Arlington, Wa. / SS. - 440C". The right side is marked "Roderick Caribou Chappel …. Fish Knife / Ser No 001". The blade features a convex ground edge, providing high performance chopping with lots of strength. From there, it moves into a hollow as the blade moves toward the spine. This technique lightens the overall weight without sacrificing strength.
The handle is stabilized buckeye burl, contoured to provide a comfortable grip. Red, stainless steel, and blue spacers will help the natural wood adjust to humidity and temperature changes. The handle is finished with a polished stainless steel guard and end cap. A lanyard can be added to the end of the handle for extra retention.
Excellent work throughout!
