Description: This is a very rare Needle model made by renowned Northwest knifemaker Rod Chappel. Master Craftsman, Roderick “Caribou” Chappel, was a custom bladesmith based primarily out of Washington state. His blades were high-caliber works of art. He was an artist that brought his pen and paper drawings to life with ease and dexterity. A trail blazer, his passion for knifemaking greatly impacted the custom knifemaking industry. His artistry is immortalized through his unique one-of-a-kind knives, daggers, and bowies. Notorious for his ergonomic hand sculpted grips and the superior mastery in his sweeping grinds, he implemented a hollow grind with a rolled convex edge that would be resilient and sharp through many events of usage. Sadly, Chappel passed away in 2017. This Needle has been in a single collection and is in new condition. By all appearances, Rod could have made it yesterday.
The 3-3/4 inch "blade" culminates into a scalpel-sharp needle-point. A blood groove travels through the polished blade. The blade is inscribed "Roderick Caribou Chappel "Needle". It is serialzed No 1 on the reverse side signifying this was the first of this model made.
The handle is ancient walrus ivory. The handle is comfortable in both a standard and reverse grip. A hole is drilled through the rear so a lanyard can be added for extra retention.
Excellent work throughout!
