Description: Paring knives come in handy for all sorts of detail tasks around the kitchen. One of the most used knives for anything from peeling fruits and vegetables to chopping garlic.
This exceptional paring knife was made by Michael Rader while he was a journeyman smith between 2006 and 2010). It has been in a private collection and has never been used to cut. By all appearances, Rader could have made it yesterday.
The blade was hand forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The damascus bolster is integral -- a technique that, while common in production knives, is very rare in handmade knives due to the difficulty of implementation.
Rader is perhaps best known for his exquisite handles. The handle is presentation grade curly koa with box elder burl accents. The wood is stabilized so that it will hold up well under the rigorous demands of either a home or commercial kitchen. Alternating G10 and copper spacers at the front of the handle are dramatic and assist it to adjust to changes in humidity and temperature.
This knife has perfect balance and feels exceptional in the hand. Tremendous work throughout from a maker that is not found very often.
