Description: Dr Fred Carter was inspired to make knives after seeing a handmade D’Alton Holder hunter in a local knife shop. He soon started making hunting knives and the rest is history. A Knifemakers Guild member since 1976, he has won numerous awards. Fred is still active in his shop in Texas, but has a huge backlog and his knives are very sought after. This knife has been in a private collection. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances could have been made yesterday. It has not been used to cut and has not been sharpened since it was made.
The 7 inch blade is hand ground 440C stainless steel with a meticulous mirror finish. 440C offers excellent corossion resistance while maintaining good edge holding and chip resistance as well. The double hollow grind is perfectly ground. The clip is fully sharpened. Fred's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is rosewood, hand sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. Two large spacers were fluted for a unique appearance while the smaller spacers were fileworked. The guard and end cap are polished nickel silver. The finial on the end cap is inlaid with abalone shell.
Exceptional work throughout!
