Description: Paul DiStefano is a bladesmith from Staten Island New York. He has been making knives full time since 2017 and is a Journeyman smith with the American Bladesmith Society. All of his knives currently are hand forged with a hammer and anvil. He is an up and coming maker doing some really incredible work and is clearly a maker to keep an eye on!
This exceptional hunter was part of Distefano's JS test. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career. The blade is hand forged 1095 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. A hand rubbed satin finish adds an heirloom quality to the blade. The five inch blade is the perfect size for most skinning and game processing tasks.
The heirloom fit handle is cascara buckthorn (Frangula purshiana). This tree is native to the Pacific Northwest. Natives would use the bark medicinally as a very strong laxative and would often use it to treat sores. The contoured handle offers a secure, comfortable grip. A satin finished guard seals the front of the handle.
Excellent work throughout!
