Description: Growing up in a house where everybody had creative hobbies, John has always enjoyed making things with his hands. A part time knifemaker and retired architect, John Arnold finds both joy and satisfaction in designing and constructing well balanced, well proportioned and beautiful knives. The Knifemakers Guild of South Africa recognized John's skill and accepted him as a member in September 2006. John currently serves on the membership committee of the KGSA. He developed the Oyster Front Flipper as a design to be made for the KGSA knifemaking competition.
Arnold designed this strong, reliable folder for everyday carry, yet it could easily be a cherished knife in any collection. The blade is satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. The action is silky smooth. The blade is perfectly centered without the slightest wobble. A front flipper assists in the ease of opening. The compact front flipper is easy to use and does not get caught on things while kept in the pocket.
The blade is hand ground 12C27 stainless steel. 12C27 is created by Sandvik in Sweden. This steel takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. It also maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well rounded choice for a high performing cutlery steel. A hand rubbed satin finish adds to the heirloom appearance.
Black G-10 handles scales are inlaid with South African wild olive wood (Olea europeae sub sp. Africana). This medium brown toned wood has tremendous figure. The combination is particularly dramatic. Anodized titanium liners keep the knife strong, yet light. At just 2.2 oz, this knife is easy for everyday carry. The anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip up carry.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
