Description: Stuart Smith began making knives in 2000 after he took a class with Mastersmith Kevin Harvey. He was immediately hooked and quit his job working as a salesman by 2004. Only a few years after that, in 2009, Stuart began teaching knifemaking classes of his own. Among his many students is Neels van den Berg. Stuart has been very active over the years in the Southern African Bladesmiths Association (SABA) and the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA). Stuart became an ABS journeyman smith in June of 2019.
This bowie was inspired by the George Woodhead Bowie made in approximately 1840. Woodhouse was a well known Sheffield knifemaker and his design is iconic.
The blade is damascus hand forged from 15N20 and 1080 carbon steels. By forging closely to shape, Stuart ensures optimal edge holding and unmatched beauty. Stuart's mark is on the right side of the knife and his J.S. mark is on the left.
Ancient woolly mammoth molar handle scales are set on a hand fileworked blackened steel frame. Hand domed silver pins add a nice accent. The oval guard is polished nickel silver.
A custom leather sheath is included to keep the knife close at hand.
Excellent work throughout!
