Description: We were excited when Australian bladesmith Jason Heinemann reached out to ask if BladeGallery would represent his work. Jason clearly has an eye for the small details and talented skills at the forge. Heinemann began taking his bladesmithing career to the next level after taking classes at Australian bladesmithing school Tharwa Valley Forge in 2018 where he learned to create and refine complex damascus patterns. He currently prefers to make one-of-a-kind art knives with a focus on bowie knives, fighters, and daggers. This Damascus Greenman Bowie shows Jason's skills at their best and can easily be the center of any collection!
The broad 9-3/4 inch blade is Jason's own mosaic damascus, forged from 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels for excellent edge retention and toughness. The high contrast, detailed pattern is extremely engaging and encourages further inspection. Jason's mark is on the left ricasso.
The handle is deer antler that has been hand carved into a Green Man theme. The Celtic Green Man is often found carved into wood or stone in medieval churches and cathedrals. He represents the cycle of new growth that occurs each spring. The carving is extremely detailed and also provides plenty of grip in hand. Despite the high level of carving, the handle is extremely comfortable to hold. The clamshell S-guard is polished 416 stainless steel. The spacer and end cap are fluted 416 stainless steel. The end cap includes a custom takedown pin. This allows the knife to be disassembled if cleaning and maintenance are needed. Take-down construction requires tighter tolerances and shows Heinemann's focus on the details. This is a knife you really have to hold to truly appreciate! Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural antler handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom leather sheath made by Shane Partridge of Blacks Blades is included.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
