Description: Dew (Ryuichi) Hara is the adult son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Dew grew up in a knife family and naturally got involved with the knifemaking by helping his father and learning his techniques. Koji Hara is well known for creating art knives with tremendous precision and detailed inlays. After working in his father's workshop for over 20 years, Dew decided to create his own knives. Dew spent time apprenticing under Anthony Marfione where he learned to build high end tactical knives. He has built a tremendous reputation of his own throughout the knife community!
This Mina flipper is a tactical EDC that shows Ryuchi Hara's tremendous sense of design and skill. This Mina Flipper is in mint condition. It was kept in a private collection since it was made in December of 2019. By all appearances, Dew could have made it yesterday.
The blade is hand forged SG2 san mai damascus. A central bar of Takefu SG2 powdered metallurgical stainless steel is surrounded by alternating layers of stainless steel and nickel. The resulting damascus is high contrast and immediately captivating. The core provides exceptional edge holding and chip resistance! The high performance blade can be easily deployed using the ambidextrous flipper tab. The caged ball bearing pivot gives the knife smooth, consistent action.
Handle scales are blackened copper. Showing Dew's heritage, handle scales are inlaid with kintsugi raden, combining the traditional Japanese kintsugi and raden process. Kintsugi - translating in Japanese to "'golden joinery' is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer mixed with powdered gold. The result is taking something broken and making it even more exquisite than before. Raden is a Japanese decorative technique that involves inserting mother-of-pearl or abalone shell linings into carved surfaces, dating back to the Nara period between 645-794 AD. The kintsugi raden inlays are stunning! The 420 stainless steel liners are jewel polished in the interior. They surround a stacked backbar combining stainless steel and copper. The stainless steel pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry and is engraved with Dew's touchmark and "1 of 1".
Excellent work throughout!
