Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. He is well known for creating extremely high quality hunting knives at a price that would be hard to find anywhere in the United States. Kevin and Heather Harvey are one of only a few husband and wife Mastersmith teams in the world and have been extremely influential through the knifemaking school they founded called Heavin Forge. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey teaches bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn his techniques. Regrettably, over the last few years, Kevin's work has been increasingly hard to come by.
The harpoon point blade is hand forged from Kevin's own fine ladder damascus. By forging carbon steels, Harvey ensures a keen, long lasting edge. A deep etch gives the blade a particularly dramatic presentation. Kevin's mark is set on the left side of the ricasso.
The handle is formed from a beautiful section of ringed gidgee (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. Thin black and white fiber spacers assist the handle adjust to any humidity and temperature changes. The handle is finished with a nickel silver guard featuring Kevin's own scroll engraving.
A brown leather sheath made by Kevin is included to keep the knife close at hand. The sheath features an ostrich leather inlay surrounded by embossing and decorative lacing on the front.
