Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. He is well known for creating extremely high quality hunting knives at a price that would be hard to find anywhere in the United States. Kevin and Heather Harvey are one of only a few husband and wife mastersmith teams in the world and have been extremely influential through the knifemaking school they founded called Heavin Forge. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey teaches bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn his techniques. Over the last few years, Kevin's work has been increasingly hard to come by in the United States.
The drop point blade is hand forged from Kevin's own raindrops and ladder W's pattern damascus. By combining carbon steels, Kevin ensures a keen, long lasting edge. A deep etch gives the blade a particularly dramatic presentation. The traditional Scandi grind is razor sharp. This style of edge is preferred by bushcrafters. Kevin's mark is shown on the left side of the blade.
The handle is formed from three sections of African Wattle Burl (Peltophorum africanum). African wattle is a deciduous tree growing throughout tropical and southern Africa. The warm toned wood has a dramatic, swirling figure. Thin black and white fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to humidity and temperature changes. The handle is exceptionally comfortable and would be a joy to use - even for hours at a time.
A single seam brown leather sheath, handmade by Kevin, is included to keep the knife close at hand. The core of the sheath is formed from beechwood and wrapped in cow hide. A "swinger" style belt loop allows the sheath to move out of the way when sitting down. A concho decoration is featured on the show side of the sheath.
Exceptional work throughout from a true master of the craft!
