Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Barlow slip joint is a fantastic utility folder. The spearpoint blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented.
Willem was honored as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere.
The 2-3/4 inch blade is made from RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to cracks and chips. The blade is hollow ground by hand for an easy to maintain edge. It is well centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
The handle is made from jigged, dyed and stabilized cow bone. A stainless steel shield escutcheon is inlaid into the left side of the handle. Thin red fiber liners add contrast to the scales and will them adjust to humidity and temperature changes.
Excellent work throughout!
