Description: Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
The rustic Highland Hatchet is among my favorite new editions Winkler Knives has offered in quite some time! This designs was born from knowledge created from a true understanding of outdoor survival. It is reminiscent of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler's hand forged hatchets. There really isn't anything you couldn't accomplish in an outdoor environment using just the Highland Hunter and Highland Hatchet. The first 50 Highland Hatchets are individually numbered.
The Highland Hatchet features a 2.6" cutting edge and measures 5 inches from the edge to the back of the hammer. The base of the haft to the top of the head measures at 11 inches. The axe is long enough to deliver an effective blow, but short enough to be light on the belt and easy to carry in the field.
Quarter sawn curly white oak scales are secured to a fully distal tapered tang. This axe will excel at chores around the campsite from hammering in stakes to chopping firewood and will serve as an exceptional tomahawk as well. A lanyard can be added at the end of the handle for extra retention if desired.
A kydex sheath with a rubber retention cord keeps the axe close by and can be attached to a belt or molle compatible equipment.
Made in the USA.
