Description: This exceptional Sgian Dubh is the work of French knifemaker Michel Blum. It was made in the early 1990s and is in mint condition. By all appearances, Michel could have made it just this year. Blum was an exceptionally well known knifemaker in France, though I believe he stopped making knives around 2009. He sold his first knives in 1988 and was a full time knifemaker.
The Scottish sgian dubh is a small knife worn as part of the traditional Scottish Highland dress. Originally used for eating and daily use, it is now worn tucked into the top of the kilt hose.
The blade is a tight ladder pattern stainless damascus. It features a boot grind with a false edge. Both the spine and the swedge are expertly hand fileworked.
The handle is presentation grade snakewood with a mammoth ivory spacer. The collar, central spacer, and pommel are sterling silver.
This knife is accompanied by a custom leather sheath, also made by Blum. The seam is braided leather. The wrap is ostrich leather with tanned brass skin details. The front features a mammoth ivory accent.
Exceptional work throughout from a maker that is rarely seen today.
