Description: Colin Cox was a knifemaker originally from Florida, known for making high performance knives that were meant to be used. He would frequently visit the Randall Knife shop to obtain handle materials for some of his own knives. While he was in the shop, Mr. Bo Randall approached him and asked if he would be interested in repairing some of the knives in their museum. He continued to do repair work for Bo Randall until Bo's death in the late 1980s. Randall's influence can clearly be seen in Colin's work. Unfortunately Colin passed away on October 6th, 2013. His Raymore, Missouri maker mark means this knife was made between 1997 and 2013. It was kept in a private collection since it was made, and by all appearances it could have been made yesterday!
The upswept 440C stainless steel blade features a satin finish in the grind and a polished finish on the flats. Jimping along the spine and a choil provide excellent grip. Colin's maker mark can be seen on the left side of the blade. Both the tang and blade are distal tapered for excellent balance.
Presentation grade ironwood scales are set to the full tang using two mosaic pins. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is among the most desirable of exotic woods used for knives. A lined lanyard tube allows a lanyard to be added for extra retention. The contoured handle is extremely comfortable.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom handcrafted brown leather sheath made by Sullivan's holster shop in Florida is included.
Excellent work throughout!
