Description: Washington knifemaker, Andrea Lisch is both a bladesmith and a blacksmith. She has worked alongside her husband, Mastersmith David Lisch in both these roles for many years. Her skill in design and bladesmithing clearly shows through on this elegant chef's knife. This is as good as a chef's knife gets! A chef's knife is the general purpose knife in the kitchen. From slicing tomatoes to chopping onions, this knife will get the task done perfectly. It is sure to be a kitchen favorite. The 6-3/4 inch blade is a perfect size to slice or chop pretty much anything in the kitchen, yet its size and light weight make it easily maneuverable.
Andrea began forging this integral chef's knife beginning with 1080, 1075 and 15N20 carbon steels. The Fine Feather pattern is immediately captivating. By forging closely to shape, she ensures optimal grain structure for a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is beautifully thin with a nice distal taper for clean, perfect cuts. A convex grind assists food to release from the blade while slicing.
The handle is formed from presentation grade spalted maple. It is nicely contoured for a secure, comfortable grip - swelling at the palm, moving into a slimmer waist, and swelling again at the end of the handle. The stabilized spalted maple will hold up beautifully to hard use, though this knife is so dramatic, it would feel at home in most any collection.
Alternating black fiber and silicon bronze spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes in the kitchen. The bolster is fully integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity but requires a particularly talented smith. The bolster is carved to encourage a comfortable pinch grip.
Exceptional work throughout!
