Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor is world renowned for his incredible skill at the forge. He originally developed the Batwing Fighter as a easy to conceal knife that could get you out of a pinch while traveling in dangerous areas. Shane's Batwing Fighters display his singular sense of design at its finest. The sleek shape is exceptionally comfortable and maneuverable when held. This is a knife that will grab your attention with its beauty and hold it with the sleek shape and feel. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made in 2019. It is in new condition and by all appearances Shane could have made it yesterday!
The clip point blade was forged to shape from Shane's own multi-bar mosaic damascus. He combined three separate bars of damascus to create the highly complex and fascinating pattern. The spine and edge feature Twist pattern damascus and surround a mosaic damascus central bar. By forging the blade to shape, Shane ensures that the edge and spine meet perfectly at the tip. Each side features a deep fuller to lighten the blade. Taylor's maker's mark is engraved and inlaid with gold on the left side of the blade.
Red stag scales are secured to the full tang using heat colored, textured, domed, slotted screws. The naturally textured stag provides a solid grip. The blade and tang are both distal tapered for exceptional balance in hand.
A stunning Manx Cross is hand engraved by Shane along the spine and tang of the knife. During the Viking Age (10th c), the Norse population on the Isle of Man during the Viking Age carved the Manx Cross onto large stones. Taylor's engraving of Celtic knotwork and a Manx cross is incredibly detailed.
Exceptional work throughout!
