Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Dino slip joint is a fantastic utility folder. The sheepsfoot blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere.
The 2.8 inch blade is made from premium CPM154 stainless steel hardened to 61Hrc with a hand rubbed satin finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. It is well centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
Handle scales are made from antique Westinghouse Micarta that are perfectly fit to the bolsters. This Micarta was developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation. This light toned Micarta was lost in a warehouse and only recently discovered. The top shows the beautiful yellowing with age that makes this Micarta so captivating. An inlaid escutcheon is also formed from stainless steel. The inlay is flawless with absolutely no gaps. 'Bolsters' are formed from Thunderstorm Kevlar. This variation on lightning strike carbon fiber uses Kevlar stands with brass wires woven through the Kevlar.
Exceptional work throughout!
