Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Barlow slip joint is a fantastic utility folder. The spear point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere.
The 2.9 inch blade is made from premium CPM154 stainless steel hardened to 61Hrc with a hand rubbed satin finish. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. It is well centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
The handle is made from green canvas Micarta. Bolsters are made from black linen Micarta. A black linen Micarta escutcheon is inlaid into the left side of the knife. The inlay is flawless with absolutely no gaps. The handle is completed with red fiber spacers.
Exceptional work throughout!
