Description: Explorer George Washington Sears, who was born in 1821, lived with Nipmuc Indians and learned skills of wilderness living. He is best known for his writings under the pen name of "Nessmuk", which dated from 1880 - 1890. During this time, he developed the knife pattern which would later bear his name. This pattern is believed by many woodsman to be the perfect knife, even today. The deep belly allows it to be an excellent skinning knife, with the weight brought toward the tip.
Wayne Clay was a knifemaker out of Pellham, Tennessee. He was well known for making lockback and slipjoint folders as well as hunting knives. Wayne studied knifemaking under the famous Bob Loveless while working in his shop in Riverside, California. Unfortunately Wayne passed away in April of 2015. This knife has been in a single private collection since it was made. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The blade is made from ATS-34 stainless steel with a mirror polish. The large belly blade has been hollow ground for an easy-to-maintain edge.
The handle is made from stag set to the full tang with Loveless style fasteners. The tang has been distal tapered to provide excellent balance. The bolsters are made from satin finished stainless steel. Red fiber spacers help the handle adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle is completed with a lanyard hole.
A brown leather pouch style sheath is included to keep the knife close at hand.
