Description: Lonnie Hansen makes some of the most dramatic hawks found anywhere. This Forged Pipe Tomahawk is a captivating example of his best work.
The head is forged from 416 stainless steel. Lonnie combined stippling with satin finish to create an exceptionally dramatic appearance. The cutting face was split and inlaid with a 52100 carbon steel core. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and knife users to be among the highest performance steels used in the knife industry. Surrounding the carbon steel core with stainless steel is not only a performance improvement, but it ensures easier care and higher performance. Fittings including the end cap, plug, collar, butt cap, mouthpiece, and inner tube are formed from textured and satin finished titanium. This keeps the hawk light and nimble. The right side of the head features Hansen's maker's mark. The octagon bowl is sculpted and textured, moving into an octagonal neck. A removable threaded titanium crown at the top of the haft is easily removed for cleaning the titanium tube that moves through the haft.
The haft is formed from presentation grade curly ash wood. The head measures 8.75 inches from cutting edge to the end of the bowl. The cutting edge is 3.7 inches long. The haft measures 22-1/3 inches overall and is finished with a titanium collar, end caps, and mouthpiece. Exceptional work throughout.
The hawk is accompanied by a waxed canvas padded storage case.
