Description: Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
Reports from the field often relate how knives are used for chores other than cutting in emergency situations. Glass breaking and prying seem to be recurring "non-intended use" situations, thus the development of the Winkler Knives II Spike. This Spike Belt Knife is one of a special edition Winkler Knives made for the USN show.
The Spike is made from 3/16" 80CRV2 carbon steel. It takes and holds an incredibly keen edge. An Ionbond finish is both non-reflective and provides rust resistance. The surface features a flat etch. The drop point design means that the blade's energy is centered, thus minimizing drift. Handle contours make it possible to comfortably reverse grip when utilizing the spike for its intended uses. Sculpted Micarta scales provide a sure, comfortable, non-slip grip. The handle is finished with a spike, integral to the tang.
The versatile Kydex lined leather sheath can be worn vertically or horizontally for right- or left-hand draw with simple adjustments. It also includes a metal belt clip.
