Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing chef's knife. Recently, Bruce spent several months working along side Mastersmith Bill Burke. This allowed him to gain a truly exceptional understanding of chef's knives and heat treatment.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long, deep-bellied blade is well suited for slicing vegetables and meats. The gentle arch of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board.
Bruce hand forged this damascus blade to shape beginning with his own Feather pattern damascus. The pattern shows tremendous control and is immediately captivating. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, it will have exceptional edge holding, but will require some extra care. We recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation.
The handle is formed from presentation grade curly Tasmanian blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon). Tasmanian blackwood is an acacia wood species that is sometimes compared to Hawaiian koa, another acacia species. Blackwood is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed, making it a sustainable wood for knife making. The curly wood is absolutely exceptional and tremendously dramatic. The handle is nicely contoured to fit comfortably in hand. It swells to fill the palm, moves into a slimmer waist, and swells again at the end of the handle. The scales are secured to the full tang using beautiful copper and stainless mosaic pins. A 416 stainless steel bolster fits perfectly to handle and blade.
