Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing folder. He has worked extensively with Mastersmith Bill Burke and Bill Ruple. He is a tremendous smith in the forge and his attention to detail really shows through in his slip joint folders.
This elegant wharncliffe folder shows Bruce's skills at their best. The blade is formed from Bruce's Cascades pattern damascus. He began by combining 1084 and 15N20. The high contrast pattern immediately grabs attention - it looks great from a distance, yet reveals further intricacies upon closer examination. The blade is distal tapered for a detail-oriented point. The blade is easily opened using a nail nick and has a solid half stop.
Handle scales are formed from presentation grade whitelip mother of pearl. The stark white scales have tremendous underlying texture within the pearl. The scales are perfectly fit to front and rear 410 stainless steel bolsters. The bolsters are meticulously engraved in floral scroll by NSW engraver Danae Cresswell. Cresswell began chisel hand engraving in December 2011 by taking lessons from Jeff Freeman and the skill displayed is truly spectacular. The backbar is formed from A2 stainless steel. Three hand domed pins complete the handle.
Exceptional work throughout!
