Description: South African knifemaker André Thorburn creates an exceptional folder. The blade is perfectly centered. The flipper opening is easy to use for quick deployment. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is exceptional! The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This is as smooth as a knife gets!
The drop point blade is formed from RWL-34 powdered metallurgical (PM) stainless steel. This is the first knife that I have encountered that Andre used RWL-34. RWL-34 is a premium stainless steel made by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. It combines high corrosion resistance with high edge strength for an exceptional knife blade. The flats are mirror polished, nearly hiding the pattern. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The scales are silver strike carbon fiber that have been nicely domed and polished. This variation of lightning strike carbon fiber uses aluminum wire (rather than copper) woven through the carbon strands. Jimping on the thumb ramp provides a comfortable, secure grip. The gently rounded handle feels sturdy and fills out the hand perfectly. The engraved, anodized zirconium bolsters provide a steadfast grip that is also very beautiful. Zirconium is a new material to the knifemaking world. It is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion and scratching. Titanium liners rest against red fiber spacers and have been fileworked and anodized. A black G10 backspacer helps keep the knife light, yet strong. The pierced titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry.
Exceptional!
