Description: Bladesmith Lonnie Hanson is best known for his exquisite axes and exceptional attention to detail. Lonnie's tomahawks utilize modern materials and techniques while maintaining an old world feel to produce pieces that can be passed down for generations to come.
This Chalice Hammer Poll features a hand forged, 52100 carbon steel head with an antique patina. The head was sculpted with fluted forward and reverse chevrons, and a hexagonal neck moving into a complex chalice poll. Hand filework graces the spine and beard of the blade.
The blade features a double border with an engraved moon on the left side and Lonnie's mark, "L.C. Hanson / In the year of our Lord 2009" on the right side. The right side also features an engraved sun. The pewter collar features the inscriptions "Liberty or Death" and "Don’t tread on me", respectively. The cap is completed with an antiqued pewter fleur-de-lis. The haft is formed from exhibition grade curly maple wood with antiqued pewter fittings.
From blade edge to poll, the head measures 8-3/4 in. The cutting edge is 3-1/2 in. The haft measures 20-1/2 in. long.
This piece is very sturdy and well weighted for chopping as well as hammering. It is accompanied by a bottle of Lonnie's own wood tonic, which will keep the haft in perfect shape for generations to come. Exceptional work throughout!
