Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler created the Winkler II line in 2010. It is an alternate approach to an established tradition. Winkler Knives II is the result of processes Daniel Winkler developed over the past few years in order to provide axes and knives to teams within United States Army Special Operations and US Naval Special Warfare. Each piece in this collection bears the Winkler Knives II touchmark.
Reports from the field often relate how knives are used for chores other than cutting in emergency situations. Glass breaking and prying seem to be recurring "non-intended use" situations, thus the development of the Winkler Knives II Spike.
As a conventional knife, the Spike is made from 3/16" 80CrV2 carbon steel with a non-glare Caswell finish. The drop point design means that the blade's energy is centered, thus minimizing drift. Handle contours make it possible to comfortably reverse grip when utilizing the spike for its intended uses. Dyed curly maple scales provide a sure, comfortable, non-slip grip. Tribal markings both provide visual interest and a sure grip. The handle is finished with a spike, integral to the tang.
The knife is accompanied by an ambidextrous leather-covered Kydex belt sheath.
