Description: South African knifemaker, Andre Van Heerden, creates an amazing folder -- and at a price that could never be found in an American handmade knife.
The Panzer 36 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. Panzer 36 is a martensitic stainless steel with high hardness, high wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. It is cross rolled in production to cancel out residual stresses from the manufacturing process. It has only recently begun being used by knifemakers and has gained significant acclaim by South African makers, where it has quickly found popularity. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey has been involved in the initial testing of Panzer 36 and describes it as having ' excellent edge holding and toughness.' The blade has been hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By hand satin finishing the grinds and mirror polishing the flats, Andre accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines.
The flipper style opening is a perfect combination with the IKBS ball bearing system. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) pivot system was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with virtually no blade play.
Very rare lightning strike carbon fiber scales rest on anodized titanium, keeping this knife light and fast. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. The resulting handle will have excellent durability as a using knife, but will easily feel at home in a collection. A pocket clip mounted for tip up carry keeps the knife close at hand. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
